The Bali Surf Connection was created by the
Brazilian surfer Rodrigo “Digone” Mascarenhas,
resident in Bali, Indonesia, since 1995.
Natural from Porto Alegre, RS, Rodrigo “Digone”
was born on 12 of September of 1972 and learned to surf
at 11 years of age at Torres beach, RS, place he use to
go with the family practically since he was born every summer
and holidays during childhood. During his youth, he traveled
to Peru where he got his first contact with bigger waves,
went many times to surf in Uruguay thanks to the proximity
of his family’s home and spent almost every weekend
staying at friend’s houses surfing at Torres beach,
place where later he start living at until the moment he
left the country and where he was a local member of the
AST (Association of Surfers of Torres) that he keep in his
hearth same as the many life friendships he has got in the
place. For some time he devoted himself to the surf competition
achieving some detachment in amateur categories until in
1994 decided to get out of Brasil in search of new experiences.
Lived for some time in San Francisco, CA, going
after to live in the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii where he
believed to have found his final destiny. In July of 1995,
he decided to take a trip to Bali “To spend a month
holiday” and could not leave the place anymore.
During his time of residence in Bali, went countless
times to other islands in Indonesia by land, sea, and air
accumulating large experience at those surf trips. Since
1995 already use to organize group expeditions to places
like G-Land (Java island), Desert Point (Lombok Island)
and Lakey Peak (Sumbawa island).
Has also been in Australia many times where
he has got many friendships made in Bali trough the years.
The principal objective of Rodrigo “Digone”
when he created this web site was to try to share his experience
obtained in those years of residence in Bali with other
people in order to ease their stay in Bali and Indonesia
in general helping pilgrim surfers in their search of the
perfect wave. Besides of the commercial purpose of promoting
its services in Bali, the Bali Surf Connection was created
with the intention of divulge and clear a bit of the mysticism
of the Balinese culture.
