The word Balian means "Sacred". Until
few years ago this was a semi-secret spot with very few surfers
in the water even in perfect days.
Today, like Canggu is one of the favorites of
the balinese and japanese.

Best
conditions:
Small or medium Southwest swell (max.5 feet) NO WINDS
(EARLY MORNING) AS THE TRADES ARE SIDE SHORE
with the incoming or high tide.
Localization:
At about 1 hour from Kuta, halfway to Medewi (depending on
traffic conditions).
Type of wave:
A frame peaks breaking to both sides on top of round rocks
bottom at a river mouth with lefts a bit shorter and fatter
and very long rights with a nice wall for top turns in the
pocket.
Access:
The road that goes to Balian has got some incredible views
with rice fields, rivers and palm trees. The signalization
is a bit poor, follow the signs to Tabanam and when your are
getting close ask for directions.
Crowd factor:
Because of its poor signalization and distance of Kuta, Balian
usually is not one of the most crowded beaches of Bali but
on the good days is common to find many balinese and japanese.
Infraestructure:
There are in the area a hotel with bungalows, nice restaurant
and swimming pool and houses for rent, and on the beach warungs
serving local dishes and snacks at the top in the parking
lot with clean water for shower.
Tips:
It´s a good idea to bring a map to don´t get lost
on the way to the beach. Make sure it will be incoming or
high tide when you get there. If the waves are good is worth
spending the night here to surf early the next day. A good
choice is the Balian beach bungalows with surf view, swimming
pool and nice restaurant and many different bungalows at different
prices.
The owner is a cool australian guy called Bob
Monkhouse.
Always beware, you are surfing at a river mouth,
pay attention.
