Not
long ago, Bingin was considered a semi-secret spot of very
difficult access completely different of what it is today.
It´s the perfect place to refine your tube riding technics.
It is also known as a tube riding school.
Best conditions:
Bingin is a wave that needs a bit of swell to break properly
but after 6 feet the wave start to break a bit too far of
the reef and become fat with bad formation. The best is a
5 feet S.W. swell as if it gets south influence the wave don´t
produce good barrels. The best tide is medium going low or
low, at medium and higher tides the wave gets longer but it
doesn´t barrel. The best wind is E.S.E. (trade winds=Terral)
but this spot is well protected from the winds because of
the cliff near.
Localization:
Bingin is situated a bit more south then Balangan and Dreamland
right next to Impossibles.
Type of wave:
This wave is almost always the same and breaks always on the
same spot of the reef. This short left that can be dropped
behind the peak, on the best days can produce a deep tube
followed by a good section for turns that always ends on a
already famous section of almost dry reef.
Access:
The road that leads to Bingin is the same road that goes to
Padang and Uluwatu but after taking a turn to go to Bingin
the paved road stop and start one full of rocks and bumps
like "good old days". Even if a bit uncomfortable,
there is plenty of nature and the spirit of adventure is alive
still.
Crowd factor:
It can get easily crowded because it's an easy wave close
to the beach with a very small take off area so with 8 to
10 guys is already packed. On top of that there are a few
locals that surf good and wait patiently for the right days.
Infraestrucutre:
These days at Bingin there are many bungalows for rent on
the top of the cliff even with ocean view. Another option
is rent a bed with mosquito net in one of the many warungs
that serve food and snacks and sleep close to the ocean.
Tips:
Here you need to be a bit patient and wait for your turn,
it pays off. Before going out watch the waves closely and
make sure what the tide is doing in thext few hours. The end
section is tricky and has made many victims. If you are not
experienced, get a helmet and booties.
