PART
II:
The trip from Sibolga to Asu was a novel.
the crew arrived at Sibolga on the 14th and we only
were able to leave on the 18th. the swell tha was on
the way should be one of the biggest in many years.
with the delay we missed giant Lagundi bay, but when
we got there on the 19th it was 8 feet still.
The crew hit the water keen for a good session
and the girl from Rio Maya Gabeira soon showed her skills
taking off on the bigger ones on the sets. The crew
was shocked with such perfection and we surfed untill
dark. Being on its majority cariocas (people from Rio),
the passengers of Baya Nohi were Marcio Trindade, Michel
Pinto, Rodrigo Smith, Maya Gabeira, Patricia Cabrini
(SC), Alexandre Macabu, Marcio Ciomar, Claudio Hennek
and the notorious Dr. Claudio Maas, the only paulista
(from SP), local of Guarujá.
Anxious to get to Asu, we left in the middle
of the morning on the next day. We arrived at Asu with
the sunrise, the surf was epic but the crew was a bit
worried about the new reef.
After lunch i went to get at Sirombu the
catarinenses (from SC) Terence and Ricardo (Juiz/judge).
the late afternoon sessionwas epic and the swell was
on the rise.
We woke up early with that traditional stomachache
telling us: today it´s gonna go off. The swell
was giant 10 to 12 feet plus, only the judge
ventured out and was swept, born again and i believe
he got one wave. i
decided that we should go back to Lagundi as the swell
would get even
bigger.
We left to Lagundi and scored perfect 4,
6, 8 feet for 3 days in a roll and i took some time
to fix the boat in Telukdalam.
The swell dropped off a bit and we were
concerned if we would have missed perfect waves at Asu.
The following week the waves pumped everyday with offshore
winds at Asu, 6 to 8 feet perfect, it was impressive
the quantity of waves with quality and we got exausted.
The standout was the shaper from Rio Claudio
hennek, showing a lot of category in the tubes and on
his turns.
The girls also showed a lot of disposition
takin off on some of the bigger
sets. It was 2 weeks of perfect waves non stop and the
begginig of the
recognition of the wave at Bawa.
