The Golden Week

Unplanned surftrips end up being many times the best ones...that was the first thing that came to my mind when i found my friends from praia do Rosa Jaca, Chicao, Gandolfi and Zed at Desert Point and they invited me to go with them as their guide on their trip to Sumbawa; i was particularly searching for the spirit of adventure traveling alone by motorbike from Bali to Lombok to get Desert Point after a swell that ended up not coming as strong as it looked disapointing the expectations.

Besdides the perfect conditions for Deserts to be cranking the internet didn't hit the spot on the swell size this time and i was preparing myself to go back to Bali without even getting any of the 2 boards that i had brought with me wet. Then i got the invitation...take the lead of the trip of the boys from Rosa and keep going for another 2 days of travel after waves on other islands.

Even with the tempting offer i had come prepared for 1 or 2 days maximun and had not brought much clothes even less money. When i had given up on the idea and went to say good bye for the last time to the boys i was taken by the impulse of the spirit of adventure that added to the last push from the boys made me take the best decision i could be taken...forget about anything else and hit the road!!! I left my motorbike with my friend from Desert Point Suleman and we kept going towards the city where you take the ferry to Sumbawa.

After a lot of roads, hours in a ferry and more and more roads going up and down the mountains we arrived at Lakey Peak about 18 hs later. the joke of the trip was that we were going from Rosa to Maresias and there was always just another 2 more hours.

At Lakey Peak we stayed "like kings" at Aman Gati hotel, the best hotel in the area that has swimming pool, a great restaurant and rooms with cable Tv and Dvd right in front of the spot...what went down on the rest of the week was waves, barrels, fishe barbecues, confraternization with the locals and even spirtual evolution.

Besides the crew that were on the trip from Bali, on the following day arrived Adriano "Didi" Silveira from Santinho beach and Rafael "Da Vila" to give more strenght to the brazilian team at Lakey. I had organized directly from Lakey the airline ticket and hotel reservation for them and Didi was bringing more boards, leashes and cash to the crew that decided to drop anchor at Lakey and dont move from that paradise.

Unfortunatelly on the days with best waves no one took picture of the surf sessions and the images got stamped only on our memorie but the vibe in the water on the many sessions that we had pratically alone with our new friends, the local Jimmy and the kids of the new generation of Lakey will never be forget.

We even had the luck of having some moments registered by my long time friend, the kiwi Craig or "Sheriff" as he like to be called, resident of the spot for years that take excellent photos from his dinghy and sell it to the crew after the surf at his room at puma hotel and even otherr moments of waves and views registered by me and the crew on the trip.

Today we arrived at Bali and everything seems like a distat memory...the big city rythym, the running, the road checks and the traffic make it all look like the result of our imagination on a dream long gone; but tomorrow arrive a new swell that look big and should stick around for at least a week, will we dream again?!

Special thanks:

To my great friends from Desert Point Suleman and family that took care of my motorbike, my bropthers from Rosa Jaca, Gandolfi and Chicao, my friend Rafael "Da Vila", the cosmic Zed, my good friend Didi and specially to the Lakey peak locals, Jimmy, the new generation kids and to my friend Sheriff from New Zeland for the pictures and good vibes. A special thanks to my special friend Pak Gede, owner of Aman Gati hotel and to all the employees of the hotel that contributed for our stay to be the best. we will be anxious to get back to this paradise again....
