Bali Surf Connection - Surf Expedition Part 1-
Nusa Tenggara - Family trip
With a new swell getting close by everything was perfect... swell direction, tides and winds were again at its best for another hardcore trip to Desert Point... unfortunately my friend Rainos Hayes couldn't change his ticket and would have to stay in Bali as there was only a few days left for trip back home...at this moment i decided to change the trip's destiny and take my brother Diogo that was traveling with his friend Everton to surf some less challenging waves without the crowds in search for the soul surfing feeling of traveling and surfing good waves with no one else on less known spots... the plane was made, we would leave in a few hours to the islands of Nusa Tenggara going south... As soon as i received a phone call from my Peruvian friend Felipe and told him my plans we had 2 more trip on the mission, him and his wife from Hungary Eva.

We left Bali at night and went overland to find less known places where i haven't been for many years that showed good potential for those conditions...

We had many days of good waves on spots of difficult access where we surfed practically alone on most of the times. On one of the places we surfed the most we had to drive for about one hour at dark to then catch a boat for another 45 minutes arriving at sunrise at a bay that had a right hander that seen from the boat reminded of Nias on one side and a left hander bigger and hollower on the other side...each with it's ideal tidal conditions opposite to the other and both with offshore winds blowing on the face...high quality surf all day long, why ask for better?? We stayed one night when we were going and one night on the way back at the Surfers Inn of my Brazilian friend Henry, a true oasis on the desert...

Soon after we moved on to Pantai Hu'u where we found a legion of good surfers from many nationalities...amongst them a group of juniors of the Billabong team New Zealand where a girl that ripped and her mother that was always filming her sessions since sunrise showed what having surfing in your blood is all about. There we also found the Brazilian professional surfers James Santos, Fernando "Fanta" and Cassio Sanchez with the professional photographer Pedro Felizardo and the videographer Bruno Bez collecting material for future surfing articles and movies...

We stayed for a few days at the Aman Gati Hotel with all the luxury and comfort one can ask for right in front of the waves that were breaking perfect and non stopping for the 5 days we were there...it was surf perfect and powerful waves all day long with some moments of good barrels depending on the tides and winds to then socialize at night with the crew and the locals in between Bintangs and descriptions of barrels over dinner to do all over again on the next day...sometimes the winds were blowing strong at the main peak but there was always "that spot" where the wind don't affect so much and the crowd is way smaller. And the barrels never stopped breaking...

On the way back to Bali we made another strategic stop after checking the information about swell size and direction and wind speed and again we surfed perfect waves with very few people in the water to finish the trip with style...

Definitely it wasn't the trip of heavy pits and full on adrenaline but without a doubt the most soul surfing possible...

Now we are again at Bali...a heavy swell is predicted to arrive tomorrow on the island and the competition at Padang is confirmed closing the break for the next few days. As an alternative for the other surfers are the Outside Corner of Uluwatu, Outside Impossibles and other reefs on the island...the tides are really good for G-Land but the crowd there will be insane for sure...

I have been invited by my professional Brazilian friends James Santos, Fanta and the rest of the crew to guide them in search of waves of small or no crowds to get some exclusive material and didn't take long to decide...in a few hours will hit the road again...

Coming soon....
