SEASON 2008 – The crowd arrived earlier

The season 2008 is starting in Indonesia...the winds are blowing offshore daily on the west coast of Bali and other islands and the rain has stopped...we didn’t get any solid swell yet but the crew is hanging around waiting for the opening swell of this season.

What can be easily noticed is the strong crowd for this time of the year...I have never seen such a strong crowd on this month before, it looks like we are in June or July…with the Australian Dóllar and Brazilian Real being very strong this year is not hard to make the equation and imagine the strong crowd of Australians and Brazilians that will be here on this season 2008. Besides that there is the fact that Uluwatu will host a WCT event that was scheduled to be hosted in Australia but ended up being cancelled and its done, the circus is in town (or on the island)…

Unfortunately a negative point is the fact of so many new projects taking place in the Padang/Uluwatu area using labor from people from other islands…weird things are happening in the area and girls traveling alone are strongly advised to choose real carefully where to stay and be very carefull when walking alone on the region…(believe or not, times are changing!!)

At the moment here in Bali besides the many locals, residents and foreigners we also have a bunch of pros already showing up, this week at Uluwatu we saw Joel Parkinson, Rob Machado, Bede Durbige and the now residents Cristian Fletcher and David Cantrell amongst other such as the Irons brothers that I heard are on the island too…Amongst the Brazilian I have already met here the resident Feijão, Fred D’Orey, Felipe and from what I heard many more are on their way.

The meeting point after surf is still the Sunset Grill of Cacho, where i have met my Australian friend Murray amongst others...keep it clean, keep it real!!!


The season is only starting but it looks like this year it will boil…may the big swells come to dissipate this hungry crowd…we are waiting!!!
