G-Land 2008

The
ocean hadn’t wake up yet...we were waiting for a 5 feet
pulse on that day that should drop a bit on the following
days picking up again with a stronger push for the 15th and
16th...We were at Ulu’s parking lot Me, Fred d’Orey
and Alex talking about the conditions of that day. We ended
up going down for breakfast at one of the warungs and pretty
soon Rosaldo Cavalcanti was together with us. We talked for
a while and the conversation ended up at G-Land and the Mentawais.
To make a long story short, a few hours and a phone call later
we were confirmed to leave very early the next morning by
speed boat to Bobby’s camp at G-Land Me, Rosaldo and
the Peruvians friends Pepe Romo and Eduardo Coquis; As Pepe
joked, with the Bali Surf Connection is too easy and not even
fair...
What followed was a week of good waves with good weather condition,
warm water and a very positive vibe in the camp that was at
almost half of its occupancy. Some Brazzos, some Aussies,
some Americans and plenty of positive energy with the camp
super relaxed.
During this week we had the birthday of Brazilian Freddy with
a party on the best “Jungle style” with our friend
Puma and the staff at Bobbys Camp organizing the surprise
party.
The waves were at the small and medium range most of the time
with one day a little bigger when the sets reached the 8 feet
scale on the bigger ones. Besides not having any day at Speedies
the Money Trees didn’t disapoint and produced a lot
of quality surf for everyone in the jungle.
As always during dinner the crew had that classical “G-Land
smile” stamped in the face from deep barrels and long
waves rides during the day.
The treatment and the infrastructure of Bobbys camp confirmed
once again its superiority and that he is always one step
ahead the competition. Nowdays amongst other things its possible
to seat in the restaurant at Bobby’s with your laptop
open enjoying the wi-fi sytem surfing the net or watching
the latest news or your favorite cable channell at one of
the many Tv’s around the restaurant...
I leave here a special thanks to pak Bobby Radiasa, Puma and
all the staff at Bobby’s Camp for this blessed week
in the paradise of G-Land!!
The return by speed boat was a wild bumping trip against the
wind and the chops and after 2 hours we were again on Bali
where Me and Rosaldo had exactly 3 days before our next trip...
Now we are again on the countdown to another Bali Surf Connection
Expedition, this time to the Mentawai Islands with departure
scheduled for the 22nd to the Macaronis Resort.
And the search still on...
ALOHA!!
