JUNE/JULY 2008 – General recollection
|
|
After
the trip to the Mentawais the months of June and July didn’t
produce anything meaningful...we had a swell of good intensity
in the middle of June when Uluwatu broke with 8 to 10 feet
at the Outside Corner and at the Bommie and waves like Padang,
Deserts and G-land gave the surfers a warming welcome despite
the wild crowd that was registered at all of those spots.
Besides this isolated swell and some days of medium waves
the average has been days of strong winds, few small swells,
some rain and completely irregular weather for this time of
the year…it looks like the effects of a global warming
are becoming every day more visible...
Apart of that we had some sad facts happening around here
such as the fire on a cheap backpacker that use to accommodate
a lot of Brazilian surfers at Padang and, more recently, a
big fishing boat that grounded at Padang-padang right on the
Outside very close to the take off zone of the wave almost
halfway through the last section where the best barrel of
Padang breaks wich can change the wave’s formation radically
and for sure will cause serious damage to the reef.
At this moment the island prepares itself to receive the WCT
circus with the world surfing elite that soon will arrive
on the island and we hope they take with them all the trash
they will produce on this period of almost 20 days they will
be around and leave some help to the local community…I
will enjoy and take a trip to some other islands to run away
from this wild crowd that should be on its way right now…
Good waves to all of you!!!
