Preparation MENTAL WAY

And after a few days of small waves we had a good pulse of 5 to 6 feet on the 5th and 6th of May right when I welcomed in Bali my friend and partner of surf expeditions in Indonesia, Alexandre Ribas that had just arrived from Brasil.

After surfing two days of good waves at Uluwatu the swell start dropping gradually until it got completely flat right on the full moon day. We took advantage to recharge our batteries going to the temple of Uluwatu to place our offerings and prayers on the night of the full moon together with a legion of Balinese people from all over the island. According to the Hindu beliefs based on the lunar calendar, the night of the full moon is the most energizing period of the island and we didn’t let this chance go to waste.
Like on the first time when we organized the project of the surf film/documentary “SURFISTAS DE ALMA” (SOUL SURFERS), this time we are organizing a project called “MENTAL WAY” that has as a differential again a much deeper approach about what goes on inside the minds of the pilgrim surfers, their world, their daily routines and the decisions and sacrifices of each one to be able to taste a bit of this life style.

After a few flat days the ocean had a last sigh yesterday (13/5) and today (14/5) providing good waves of 3 to 4 feet at Ulus which was perfect for us to warm up the engines again and keep in shape…tomorrow (15/5) the forecast shows a much smaller day and we have some business to take care of and many things to do before embarking to the Mentawai islands on the morning of the 16th.

From Bali we’ll go Me, Alexandre Ribas and Marcinho Trindade and on Padang city at Sumatra we will meet up with our friends coming directly from Brasil, the renowned surfing journalist and ex professional surfer Rosaldo Cavalcanti and the 4 times professional Brazilian female surfer Andrea Lopes.

We will be staying at the Kandui island on the playgrounds region where we will have the opportunity to surf dozens of international quality waves at a very short distance by boat from where we will stay. Once again the BALI SURF CONNECTION have organized all the logistics for the expedition and now all we have left to do is thank the Gods for having this opportunity again of living the golden dream of every surfer in the planet.

Now its only a matter of wait for the barrels to break…my mind is already there!!!
