Impossibles
is a good wave for surfers who don´t like to surf with
the crowds and also a good school on bigger days for those
less experienced with bigger waves and coral reefs as it´s
a bit less powerful than the other waves in the area.
Best conditions:
The best conditions for "Impossibles" to become
a bit more "Possibles" is swell of minimum 6 feet
with as much South influence as possible, medium incoming
tide, with strong E.S.E. winds (trade winds=off shore).
Localization:
It´s located in front of the cliff in between Bingin
and Padang-padang being able to be seen from both places.
Type of wave:
Impossibles is a high speed wave where the surfer has to always
take a down the line approach without making radical bottom
turns. Sometime the wave will back off a little giving the
opportunity to do some turns on the pocket at full speed.
Ocasionally it will produce some barrels.
Access:
You can get to Impossibles via Padang paddling or walking
(low tide) or by Bingin that is a little closer to Impossibles
and from where you can see the wave in front of you.
Crowd factor:
Because of its extense reef and many sections from where the
wave can be droped, Impossibles can handle a large number
of surfers at the same time, but is very rare days with more
than 15 surfers in the water because of the difficulties to
get to this spot.
Infraestructure:
There is almost nothing in Impossibles, only a few warungs
serving local dishes close to the bottom of the cliff near
a section closer to Padang where is possible to rent a bed
with mosquito net and some nice bungalows on the top of the
cliff.
Tips:
Pay attention to your position specially on bigger days, try
to take a reference point on the cliff. If you decide to surf
on a dropping or low tide stay alert. Observe for some time
before going out to make sure wich section is opening more.
