It
was here in the year of 1938 that the first register of surfers
in Bali was made when american Robert Koke from L.A. came
to to the island for the second time and brought with him
wooden boards made in Hawaii. He opened the first hotel in
the area that was called Kuta beach hotel and lived in Bali
for 5 years. From then until now a lot has happened and Kuta
is today the most popular and developed beach of Bali.
The most crowded part of Kuta beach, every day
this little area of the beach gets packed with tourists of
the most different nationalities where most of the girls do
topless. Ideal spot to watch a spectacular sunset and make
new friends.
Best conditions:
Like most spots in Kuta, the ideal here is a 3 to 5 feet south
swell with offshore winds and medium tide coming high.
Localization:
Located on the most touristic part of Kuta beach right in
front of the street poppies lane II.
Type of wave:
Lefts and rights that offer a good wall for maneuver sometimes
ending literally on the beach.
Access:
By the beach road that has got parking lots all over.
Crowd factor:
Because of its localization on the most touristic part of
Bali, this wave is regularly crowded with a lot of inexperienced
surfers mixed to the usually friendly locals.
Infrastructure:
You are in the hearth of Kuta beach. More infrastructure (hotels,
restaurants, shops, markets, etc.) impossible.
Tips:
A lot of hot chicks on the beach making topless and inexperienced
surfers in the water. Be ready to handle the crowds and annoying
beach sellers.
Talk to surfers who been surfing in the area longer
than you and try to get informed about the water conditions
lately. Some times the level of pollution make infections
like conjunctivitis, ear infection and some skin irritations
happen.
School of many of the best surfers from Kuta,
this is the venue of the majority of surf events that take
place in the sands of Kuta such as the "World Grommet
Titles", "Da Bull Surf Legends", the "Kuta
Karnival", etc.
Best conditions:
Same as Poppies II.
Localization:
About 500 meters to the left (North) of Poppies II on the
way to the 66 club (Double six).
Type of wave:
Very similar to poppies II but a little bit better opening
more and a being longer.
Access:
Same as Poppies II.
Crowd factor:
Always full of locals that rip and demand respect.
Infrastructure:
Same as Poppies II.
Tips:
As it´s always full of locals, be discreet in your attitudes.
This is the most surfed wave by the Hui crew as
the shop and the factory are situated near by. At this waves
big names in balinese surfing were born such as Made Kasim
and Cookie, etc.
Best conditions:
Same as Poppies II and Halfway.
Localization:
Right in front of Padma street at about 800 meters from Halfway.
Type of wave:
Lefts and rights break until the beach separated by a channel
making possible a lot of maneuvers connecting the outside
to the inside. Another 200 meters to the right there is another
bank with similar conditions.
Access:
Same as Poppies II and Halfway.
Crowd factor:
Same as Halfway, many locals.
Infrastructure:
Same as Poppies II and Halfway.
Tips:
Respect all the locals, this is no dysneyland.
Ps. In between Padma and Canggu there are
a lot of less famous banks that can break good waves on the
right days with no one out.
