At about 3 Km from Lakey Peak, there is another
good right hand break called Periscopes, where there are also
rooms for rent in front of the surf.
Another
way to go toSumbawa is by daily domestic flights (1.5hs from
Kuta to Sumbawa) that arrive at the airport of Sumbawa Besar
(Sumbawa) or by a big boat that leaves Bali twice a week and
goes to Bima, Sumbawa and take 7 hs for the trip.
• SURF SPOTS
-Lakey Peak:
Located in the middle of the other spots, after a lagoon that
forms on the low tide, is one of the few spots in Indonesia
where you can surf good waves on reef bottom to the right
and to the left. The left is longer and produces 2 good deep
barrel sections and wall for maneuvers ending on the channel
while the right is shorter but also offers a tube and wall
for maneuvers. Lakey´s can handle swell up to 8 feet
but after
6 feet start to get heavy. Better at dead low tide early morning.
-Lakey Pipe:
Just left of Lakey Peak, separated by a few hundred meters
channel, this left can deliver nice barrels with backdoor
sections, getting better at the medium tide coming high from
4 to 6 feet. Doesn´t suffer much influence from mid’day
onshore winds.
- Nungas:
Left
located at the right side of Lakey Peak, Nungas is the best
bet for when the swell is over 8 feet offering very long walls
with various sections from where the wave can be dropped.
Ideal at medium to high tide as at low tide the wave sections
a lot and get very shallow.
- Periscopes:
Long and hollow right located at about 3 Km to the
right of Lakey Peak, Periscopes is a moody wave that depends
on non or light winds, medium or high tide and a good south
swell to show what it is capable of.
