NUSA LEMBONGAN - LOMBOK E SUMBAWA
Overland trip to the islands
Nusa Lembongan, Lombok and Sumbawa

The trip made to Lombok and Sumbawa on board of a charted boat can also be made by land, where one can surf more relaxed (more time) the spots found on the way without the obligation of following a hurried schedule. It´s possible also to surf at spots that are not on the route made by boatcharters, but it´s not possible to surf at Nusa Lembongan following this route.

At the overland trip, countless paradisiacal places are part of the route but patience and spirit of adventure must be something in common amongst the crew taking part in this journey, otherwise the trip can become a torture because of the long distance to be traveled overland and the long time to do it thanks to the poor signalization and dangerous traffic of big loaded trucks on roads ridiculously narrow on the edge of a really high mountains without any protections plus the time spent in the crossing from one island to another.

Leaving Bali is better when its done at night as it takes only 2 hours to the place where you will take the ferry to Lombok (Padang Bay) and after it´s 4 hours in the ferry until you get to Lombok island.

Leave Kuta going towards Sanur and after you passed Sanur follow the signs that indicate the city of Gianyar that is on the way to Padang Bay and where you will finally find signs indicating how to get there.

At Padang bay there are Ferries to Lombok every two hours. Keep in mind that the vehicles leaving Bali, BY THE LAW, must have a document sign by the owner of the vehicle authorizing the car to be taken to another island. Without this document, a “Special Tax” (around USD 20,00) can be arranged with the officers on duty to solve the problem…The ideal is to leave Kuta around 8 pm arriving at Padang Bay around 10 pm to get to Lombok before sunrise.

This way you can also avoid the “wonderful” traffic of trucks and buses that are common during the day in between Kuta and Padang Bay.

At Lombok you will disembark at the harboring town of Lembar, drive then to Sekotongs direction and after to Bangko-bangko (where Desert Point is located).

At Sekotong there are a few losmens and hotels at very reasonable prices…look for the Bola-bola hotel. From there you can choose to surf other spots at Kuta Lombok´s area or keep going straight to Sumbawa driving to the harboring town of Labuhan Lombok (place from where the ferry to Sumbawa leaves).

The ideal is to go back to the city of Mataram and then follow the signs to Labuhan Lombok as the roads are way better.

At Labuhan Lombok there are ferries to Sumbawa every 2 hours and the crossing takes only 1,5 hours, plus there is no hassle about the authorization of the vehicle to make crossing.
