Nusa
Dua is a very powerfull wave that breaks at about 700 mts
from the beach. There are reports of perfect days on the 20
feet scale with real good and clean conditions but the most
common is in the 6 to 12 feet range whenever there is a good
swell around.
Best conditions:
South swell over 6 feet with W.SW. winds (on shore at Ulu's)
and medium to high tide; can hold up at least to 12 feet without
a problem.
Localization:
On the west coast of Bali not far from Uluwatu, about 15 to
20 min.
Type of Wave:
Very long and powerful right with some barrel sections; one
of the waves on the island most similar to Hawaii.
Access:
The access is by the By Pass road; coming from Kuta, drive
past the Mc Donald's of the University (entrance to road to
Ulu's) and keep going until the last traffic light where you
have to turn right before you get in the hotels complex; from
there follow the signs and explore the area as there are several
spots around.
Crowd factor:
Nusa Dua can get crowded but the line up here is very long
and many peaks can break at different parts of the reef; besides
that there are many other spots in the area that can be breaking
with perfect conditions without anyone around.
Infrastructure:
The infrastructure at Nusa Dua is excellent and on the beach
there are many good restaurants, local warungs and bars...The
Hotel complex just off the beach is notorious and big five
star hotels are everywhere and so are the golf courses.
Tips:
Because of its long distance to the beach, there are days
at Nusa Dua when the current gets real strong so it's good
to catch a ride on the boats that take surfers to the line
up to save some energy; it's also good to keep an eye on the
last section of the wave when the tide is dropping as the
reef can get very shallow.
