SURF TRIP G-LAND

We
arrived at Bali mid August and the expectation of the second
season in Indonesia promised two months of plenty of surfing.
After two weeks of regular waves on the Bukit's reefs, time
enough to adapt to the waves, the ideal conditions to take
off to the island where G-Land sits were coming closer, a
good south swell that should last for three days on the 6
to 8 feet scale.
We contacted then our friend and surfguide Rodrigo “Digone”
Mascarenhas, agent of the Bali Surf Connection, resident on
Bali for over ten years and responsible for taking care of
everything, accomodation, transport, tips, etc.
We arrived at G-land on the 28th of August and the swell would
arrive on the first of September. The first two days were
spent preparing on a hot dog surf of 4 feet.
On the 1st, the day started with 7 feet sets with enough tide
for Speedies to break, excellent waves but the best was yet
to come...On the 2nd the swell kept the size but had a better
direction more aligned...epic conditions for G-Land. On the
morning there was an insane time where the Money Tress section
was on fire with very few in the water and 7 to 8 feet. After
the tide fill in good the Speddies started to work to perfection
with waves of two meters.
Many barrels were ridden, many boards broken and many new
tattoos drawn. G-Land is really one of the classical waves
of Indonesia.
To end the day the crew got together to go see the pictures
of the professional photographer John Hepler that lives there
and sell the photos to everybody.
Still on the 3rd there were some moments on the set waves
but a lot less consistent.
A new swell is on the charts for next week...September never
fails!
Many barrels will break, Peace to you all,
Mauro Bianco
Digone: According to the G-Land vets this
was the best swell of the season!!! Thanks Mauro, all the
best to the couple!!
