I've met Fred when i arrived in Bali in 95 and the thing the impressed me the most about him was the versatility of his surfing; besides surfing really good on the powerfull long walls at the Outside Corner and on the heavy barrels at Padang-padang on bigger days, he really stands out when the place we talk about is the Race Tracks of Uluwatu showing a lot of experience and deep local knowledge by reading perfectly the waves where he fits a lot of top turns on the critical section at the shallowest part of the reef before pulling in at tubes that break just after.

It´s really inspirational to see someone like Fred showing to the younger generations the way to follow and leaving many young pros with their jaws open with his performance on this wave; besides that, his contribution to surfing in Brasil made by his articles published in the midia and his behaviour in and out of the water dispense comments. The next time you go to Bali, pay attention to a goofy footer with a bit of grey hair probably on a red board flying down the line on the lefts at the Race Tracks and for sure you will learn a lot of things that only years of experience would teach you.
